Situation: As many executives have become painfully aware, inconsistent or unenforceable standards can leave a company exposed to significant liability. A longtime client had an inconsistent approach to data security, affecting every department and every employee.
Critical Issue: This became a critical issue when the company started to experience data breaches, and it was clear a three-pronged approach was required.
Reasons: Once the standards were developed, training needed to be designed and delivered, with uniform standards enforcement.
Vision: The Senior Vice President of Human Resources told me there were three issues keeping her up at night:

Situation: In the petroleum industry, oilfield service companies compete for business constantly. Developing and maintaining client relationships is essential to gaining business opportunities and retaining customers.
Critical Issue: With a very diverse, analytical workforce, this global seismic services company began to notice a trend toward offending or alienating its clients.
Reasons: The employees were mostly shy and introverted, yet highly educated and intelligent. However, a large part of their work was presenting information and interacting with clients in social and dining settings.
Vision: The Training Department shared concerns about losing business and project opportunities to competitors. It was challenging for their employees to interact and dine with customers in an American behavioral style.
We Provided: We created a customized Business Etiquette Course, including best practices for interacting and dining with clients. Participants practiced their skills at a meal together.
Results: Participants learned the courteous, polite behavior skills needed to interact with clients comfortably. This course became part of the company’s New Employee Orientation program and was implemented as the behavioral standard throughout the company.
